Purpose:
The
Medical
Innovation Bill, a private Member’s Bill introduced by Lord Saatchi. Its stated purpose is to encourage responsible
innovation in medical treatment. The provisions in the Bill will apply in
relation to Wales.
The
Welsh Government tabled a Legislative
Consent Memorandum in relation to the Medical Innovation Bill (PDF, 772KB)
on 10 December 2014. The Health
and Social Care Committee consulted on the Legislative Consent Memorandum
between 16 December 2014 and 9 January 2015.
The
Legislative Consent Memorandum was referred to the Health and Social Care Committee by
the Business Committee on 13 January 2015 with a reporting deadline of 29
January 2015.

To propose that the
National Assembly for Wales, in accordance with Standing Order 29.6 agrees that
provisions in the Medical Innovation Bill, relating to treatment and
alleviation of disease, illness, injury, disability and mental disorder;
provision of health services; clinical governance and standards of health care
in so far as they fall within the legislative competence of the National
Assembly for Wales, should be considered by the UK Parliament.
