The Committee’s original inquiry

The National Assembly for Wales’ Health and Social Care Committee undertook an inquiry into the implementation of the national service framework for diabetes in Wales and its future direction during 2012/13.

The inquiry’s terms of reference were to examine the progress made on implementing the national service framework for diabetes in Wales across the local health boards, and its adequacy and effectiveness in preventing and treating diabetes in Wales.

The Committee also considered potential future actions that are required to drive this agenda forward.

The Committee held a public consultation to gather evidence on this topic.

The Committee’s report

The Committee reported (PDF, 1MB) in June 2013. The Welsh Government responded (PDF, 214KB) in October 2013. The Plenary debate took place on 16 October 2013.

The Committee’s follow-up work

In summer 2014 the Committee agreed to seek an update report from the Minister for Health and Social Services on the progress made to date in implementing the Committee’s recommendations. The Minister for Health and Social Services responded in September 2014.

The Minister’s update (PDF, 35KB) emphasises that many of the Committee’s recommendations are being implemented via the Diabetes Delivery Plan (DDP). In light of this response the Committee agreed to defer a decision on whether to undertake any future follow up work until after the publication of the annual report on the Diabetes Delivery Plan. It is understood that this is due at the end of 2014.
