Purpose of the consultation
The
Public
Audit (Wales) Act 2013 was introduced in July 2012 and became law in Wales on 29 April
2013. The Act aimed to strengthen and improve the accountability and governance
arrangements relating to the Auditor General for Wales and the Wales Audit
Office whilst protecting the Auditor General for Wales’s independence and
objectivity.
Following
its inquiry to consider
proposals to amend the Public Audit (Wales) Act 2013, the Finance
Committee agreed to consult on a Draft Bill with a view to
introducing it in this Assembly. The Draft Bill seeks to amend the Public Audit
(Wales) Act 2013 in order to address issues identified during the Committee’s
post-legislative scrutiny of the Act.
