Introductions, apologies, substitutions and declarations of interest

Minutes:

1.1 The Chair welcomed Members to the meeting of the Children, Young People and Education Committee.

 

1.2 In accordance with Standing Order 34.19, the Chair stated that she had determined that the public were excluded from the Committee’s meeting in order to protect public health but that the meeting would be broadcast live on www.senedd.tv

 

1.3 The Chair stated that if for any reason she dropped out of the meeting, the Committee agreed that Ken Skates MS would become Temporary Chair in accordance with Standing Order 17.22.

 

1.4 There were no apologies nor declarations of interest.

Consideration of the Legislative Consent Memorandum on the Skills and Post-16 Education Bill

Minutes:

4.1 The Committee considered the Legislative Consent Memorandum. It agreed to write to the Welsh Government and Secretary of State for Education for further information.

 

4.2 The draft report would be considered at the meeting on 7 October.

6.1 The Committee scrutinised the Minister for Education and Welsh Language.

6.2 The Minister agreed to provide the following information:

- the amount of additional funding that has been allocated for school counselling services;

- the letter from Qualifications Wales regarding the implementation of the Curriculum for Wales;

- the Welsh Government’s modelling in relation to the impact on Welsh institutions if access to higher education for English students is controlled or if English fees are cut following the UK Government’s response to the Independent Panel report to the review of post-18 education.

6.3 The Committee agreed to write to the Minister with the questions that weren’t covered during the session.
