The Bible teaches, so God says, that if you spare the rod you spoil the child. This is not an opportunity for parents to abuse or severely beat their child but to administer physical punishment in a loving environment. Currently the law only allows for mild physical punishment and this should not be removed completely. A loving parent will not beat or abuse their child but will use the best means possible to discipline them.
This Bill if it becomes law will criminalise such parents and will allow children to have the authority over their parents instead of the other way around. It smacks (no pun intended) of state intervention which is becoming of a dictatorship or extreme communist state. I would sincerely hope that we do not follow this route and that those in power will not want this outcome.

The bill will criminalise law-abiding, loving parents and will put unnecessary burden on the legal system and the social work service.

The financial implications will be a lot higher than detailed in the Explanatory Memorandum or the bill will not be implemented effectively.
