I believe that hitting children is an assault. It teaches the child that violence is the way to getting what you want. It is humiliating and breeds anger and resentment. A child can grow up beliving that hitting./ assault is the best way to control others.

Yes. It is the only way to bring it home to parents that hitting children is wrong.. Some people believe that hitting a child is the only way to stop or control "bad " behaviour. They need to be helped to develop alternative strategies to guide their children.

There should be, alongside the bill, plans to provide more parenting support in a way that does not stigmatise parents. Eg through health visiting.
