Reasonable punishment is not a defence for hitting an adult and there is no reason why it should be a defence for the same actions visited upon a child.
Children need to know they are protected by law from being hit.
It will enable people who witness a child being hit by its parents to tell them to stop.
There are other methods of managing childrens’ behaviour other than resorting to assault.
