Smacking is not child abuse when it is loving parental discipline. If it were banned, police and social workers could be overwhelmed with trivial allegations instead of concentrating on cases of real child abuse. It is vital for our society that children are disciplined, and a gentle smack as part of this does not constitute violence.

The Bill would criminalise loving parents who want to discipline their children and use smacking as part of this, particularly when they are not old enough to understand a verbal warning.

As the majority of Welsh adults are not in favour of the Bill, it should not be implemented.
