As the Assemblies own evidence points out, smacking does not negatively effect the child. In fact discipline is one of the keys for healthy development of the child to become a fully functioning member of the society and not a criminal one - this bill would criminalize good parenting which is based upon the Bible. The words of God to us. This bill should not pass in any form. The law is good at present to protect children from abuse

No. The law at present defends the rights of children from actual abuse. The parental discipline of light smacking is not abuse and is not criminal behaviour. Parents know what is best for their children.

Many good law abiding parents would be criminilized and it might create an atmosphere of distrust in the community. People would view good parents as criminals and some bad parents as 'good' because they don't smack
