I was smacked as a child and understand now and understood it then that it was done by loving parents for my discipline. It is not child abuse. It is a last resort and loving parents who use this as a last resort should not be criminalised.

The Police have enough of a workload at the moment and also complain of a lack of manpower. I worry that they will be overwhelmed with the unintended consequences of this Bill. Sadly, it may lead to real cases being missed in the process of dealing with an increase in referrals.
