We teach children not to hurt others and that it is wrong to use violence in any form. How can a child be expected to learn that if they are smacked?
I have friends that smacked their children that are devastated to now see their child flinch away from them in any confrontation. I was smacked as a child and never ever understood how it was justified.

Yes - if it is not made illegal people will still try to bypass the rules. If you hit another person it is common assault - why should that be different for a child.

I think anyone who does not support this bill needs to do a serious amount of soul searching as to why they feel it is acceptable to hurt a small person.

No - there are no financial implications that make this not worth doing.
