I often question why does the UK agree that it is against the law for adults to enforce physical punishment towards another adult yet we allow this from an adult to a child who is one of the most vulnerable in our society. Surely it is the right of every child to be protected and to be safe from unreasonable physical punishment as outlined in the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child.
As a single parent and a professional working with children I believe that children can be disciplined by many other ways rather than by being physically punished as it has been proven not to be effective and can cause actual harm to the child.

Yes, as a member of society and in my professional role I can challenge parents if I see them physically hurting their child and will be able to tell them that it is against the law, and if appropriate to take action.
