About you

Individual

1      The Bill’s general principles

1.1     Do you support the principles of the Children (Abolition of Defence of Reasonable Punishment) (Wales) Bill?

— Partly

1.2     Please outline your reasons for your answer to question 1.1

(we would be grateful if you could keep your answer to around 1000 words)

I feel parents and carrers do have a right to punish a child where boundries have been set and that child having understood the consequences of what will happen if they deliberately break that understanding, are carried out. no one should hit a child with anything except a flat hand,eg a smack. As a parent of 4 children I can honestly say if I had not had boundaries for all the children and followed through with the consequences by a smack, which definately detered bad behaviour, because they knew I was being fair everyone was treated the same.

the problem is some people abuse this way of dsicipline which I can understand needs to be stopped,so I feel there should be help and  training for parents to cope with bad behaviour and destructive behaviour ,parents need to show children by being a good role model, this includes their use of good language and praising good behaviour.

Parents I see are quick to shout at children or dish out punish ments but are not at all consistant in rewarding by gesture or praise for good behaviour including respect and manners.

How would you police this? and I feel the real offenders who will always abuse children will still do so.

Yes schools and nurseries where physical punishment is against the law,may come into problems when a child has to be physically restrained to prevent it hurting itself or others.
