There is no evidence that a controlled smack causes any harm to a child; parents know their own child and should be the best ones to judge how to discipline that child.
It is not reasonable for the state to interfere with family life.
There is very little support for this ban amongst the population of Wales.
To implement this Bill would be costly and, more importantly, detract from the important resources needed for addressing child abuse - real, harmful abuse not a small smack.

To remove the defence of 'Reasonable chastisement' would cause parents who discipline their children with a controlled smack will be regarded as criminals.
Such a law would cause all manner of difficulties and breakdown of family life.
