I was a battered child. This type of punishment is cruel, barbaric and unnecessary.

I think many will object! Usual things will be said such as 'it didn't do me any harm' etc. It really does harm for life. It is an many ways a really lazy way of punishing s child because you don't have to talk about the reasons why punishment is being given out in this form.

There is no defence for assaulting a child. If people 'get away with it' once, the next assault will be worse
