I do not believe that a relatively light smack administered in the context of a loving parent-child relationship constitutes behaviour that should be criminalised. To move to criminalise such behaviour is an example of the state over reaching its authority, and is to misread public opinion.

Yes, primarily that passing such a law would effectively criminalise a large number of loving parents who are seeking to bring their children up in accordance with their beliefs and values, disrupting families and having serious implications for the careers and freedoms of law abiding citizens who love their children.
