The definition of autism can be a challenge as it is a spectrum and many women and girls are excluded from the diagnosis if it is rigidly applied and these people can still suffer from the negative affects of autism

It can be difficult to assess your own need for a service when autistic and the views of families and carers might be important too. Not accepting the diagnosis fully can also prevent someone assessing services as they can be presented as something for disabled people which is not how everyone with autism views themselves

It might be useful to also ask what other diagnosis they were given before getting (finally!) to the better fit of an autistic diagnosis eg borderline personality disorder, bipolar, ADHD

Not sure, just writing down that services are needed does not mean that they will be provided and it may be that if people with autism have more right to services that cost money then diagnosis will be even harder.
